IIT Madras’s groundbreaking work in quantum innovation is set to revolutionize IT security in India. The institute has created India’s first Silicon Photonics-based high-speed Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG). The technology will be marketed by Indrarka Quantum Technologies Pvt. Ltd., the result of collaboration between IIT Madras’ scientists, students, and professors. This technology will significantly enhance IT security in the military and defense, financial transactions, blockchain, OTP generation, and gaming applications.
The technology was developed at IIT Madras’s Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuit and Systems (CPPICS). A licensing agreement, worth Rs 1 crore, has been signed between IIT Madras and Indrarka Quantum Technologies. The QRNG module has already been deployed at SETS Chennai for quantum security applications, and its applications include fields such as cryptographic algorithms and Quantum Key Distribution. The project exemplifies the successful translation of academic research into marketable products, solidifying India’s role in the global quantum technology arena. The achievement is a testament to focused R&D and strong industry partnerships.
