The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has unveiled the beta version of Adi Vaani, a pioneering AI-powered translator designed to protect and promote tribal languages. This innovative tool, developed under the Tribal Pride Year, aims to bridge communication barriers and preserve the linguistic diversity of India. Available on the Google Play Store, with iOS and web versions in development, Adi Vaani leverages artificial intelligence to facilitate real-time translation between Hindi/English and tribal languages. It will also provide interactive language education, preserve folklore, and promote digital literacy within tribal communities. With numerous tribal languages facing endangerment, Adi Vaani offers a crucial solution. It was developed through a collaborative effort involving IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Nawa Raipur, and tribal research institutes across multiple states. The beta version currently supports languages including Santhali, Bhili, Mundari, and Gondi. Further expansion will incorporate Kui and Garo languages.
