Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 17 series at its upcoming event on September 9th. Preceding the launch of new iPhone models, discussions often surface. A central topic is the possible elimination of the physical SIM slot. This suggests that a number of iPhone 17 series models could only support eSIM.
The United States already features eSIM-only models starting with the iPhone 14 series. However, the shift could spread to Europe, impacting France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
According to reports by MacRumors, Apple has instituted mandatory eSIM training for authorized resellers in these countries. Employees are required to complete the training through Apple’s SEED app by September 5th.
Apple began removing the physical SIM slot with the iPhone 14 series in the United States in 2022. This might expand with the iPhone 17 series. This offers advantages such as reducing the risk of SIM theft or loss, offering quick activation and deactivation options, and enabling multiple profiles on a single device.
Markets such as India currently offer both physical SIM slots and eSIMs. However, this shift suggests that iPhones in India, as well as other markets, may eventually transition to eSIM-only models.
The Apple event may reveal the design and features of the iPhone 17 Series. Furthermore, there may be announcements regarding new iOS updates, eSIM-only models, and the potential introduction of new Apple Watch and Mac devices.
