Meta has launched its first Ray-Ban smart glasses with augmented reality (AR) capabilities, together with two other new AI smart glasses. The Meta Ray-Ban Display introduces a heads-up display to the brand’s smart glasses lineup, following Google Glass’s lead. The glasses’ classic Wayfarer design incorporates a camera, microphone, and speakers, all while preserving a conventional eyewear appearance.
A small, vibrant display, positioned within the right lens and just below the eye line, provides visual information. This display can show text, display images, facilitate live video calls, and offer other functionalities. The display is only visible when the user engages with the glasses, ensuring privacy. An LED indicator alerts others when the camera is active.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, revealed the glasses during the Meta Connect event on Wednesday.
During his presentation at the company’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters, Zuckerberg noted the potential of glasses, as a form factor, to allow AI to experience what the user sees and hears, which will eventually lead to the generation of user-desired content such as images or video.
