Bike taxi company Rapido is making a significant move into the food delivery market with the introduction of Ownly. This service seeks to challenge established players like Swiggy and Zomato by offering food at a 15% discount. The lower prices are enabled by a shift away from the standard commission-based model (up to 30%) used by competitors, toward a fixed-fee-per-order structure. This approach also allows for more efficient delivery operations due to reduced fuel consumption and faster delivery times. Ownly’s services are initially available in select areas of Bangalore, including Byrasandra, Madiwala (BTM) Layout, Tavarekere, Koramangala, and Hosur Sarjapura Road (HSR) Layout. Rapido, which started with bike taxis in 2015, has since expanded to include a range of services, including auto rickshaws, parcel delivery, and cab services. Ownly is launched under the umbrella of Ctrlx Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rapido.
