Contrary to some user concerns, Paytm UPI will remain operational after August 31st. The recent updates primarily affect recurring payments. If you have subscriptions like YouTube Premium or Google One Storage paid via Paytm UPI, you’ll need to update your UPI handle. The old @paytm handle is being replaced with new ones: @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, and @ptsbi. This change does not impact standard UPI payments for one-time transactions, such as those made on Google Play or to merchants. The shift is due to Paytm’s status as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) approved by NPCI, which necessitates moving users to new bank-partnered handles. The August 31st deadline is linked to new regulations starting September 1st, which will affect subscriptions using the old handle. To ensure seamless service, users should update their UPI ID in the Paytm app to the new handle. Alternative options include linking recurring payments to other UPI apps (PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM UPI, WhatsApp UPI) or using debit/credit cards for subscriptions.
