The ‘Godfather of AI,’ Geoffrey Hinton, has issued a significant warning about the trajectory of artificial intelligence. He suggests that the development of AI could lead to the end of humankind. Hinton is critical of the direction taken by the technology developers, whom he calls ‘tech bros’. In a discussion with CNN, the computer scientist, who holds a Nobel Prize, estimated a significant probability of AI’s potential to obliterate humans. Furthermore, Hinton has voiced his doubts about the efficacy of measures being taken by companies to ensure human control over AI, suggesting these efforts are not viable. At the Ai4 industry conference, Hinton pointed out that AI will become far more intelligent than humans and will possess the capacity to circumvent any control mechanisms.
