WhatsApp is striving to improve the user experience by consistently introducing new features. Android users are currently testing an update that introduces Motion Photo functionality. This feature, as observed in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.22.29 by WABetaInfo, is presently accessible only to a select group of beta testers.
The Motion Photo feature captures the moments just before and after a photo is taken, incorporating both movement and audio. This enhancement allows for more dynamic and engaging photos. Similar capabilities are already integrated into smartphones like Samsung’s Motion Photos and Google Pixel’s Top Shot.
When users choose an image from their gallery, a unique icon will appear in the upper right corner. This icon, featuring a play button within a ring and a small circle, will allow users to send the image as a motion photo. Consequently, the recipient can view both the motion and hear the accompanying audio.
To send motion photos on WhatsApp, your phone must support this feature. However, even if your phone cannot capture motion photos, you can still view those sent by others.
Besides Motion Photo, WhatsApp is developing a new feature: the ability to share usernames instead of phone numbers. This will bolster security and enhance privacy within the chat environment.
In essence, WhatsApp’s Motion Photo will enhance photo sharing, and the username feature will offer users a new, secure method for identity sharing.
