YouTube recently showcased new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities at its Made on YouTube event, designed to assist content creators. For Shorts, a new AI tool is available to generate video backgrounds and clips complete with sound. The platform is also expanding the scope of Playables on Live, enabling creators to utilize over 75 games to interact with their audience.
YouTube has collaborated with Google DeepMind to integrate a custom version of the Veo 3 video generation AI model specifically for YouTube Shorts. This collaboration allows creators to create video backgrounds and clips with sound. The tool offers 480p video generation with reduced latency, available at no charge.
The new Shorts feature is currently accessible to creators located in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. To utilize this feature, creators can tap the create button and then select the “sparkle icon.” YouTube intends to roll out this tool to additional regions in the near future.
Upcoming features for Shorts include the capability to transform still photos into videos using the Veo 3 AI model. Creators will be able to add effects, apply styles such as “pop art,” and integrate objects through text prompts. These enhancements are expected to be released in the coming months.
The Google Veo 3 AI model is also being integrated into the Podcasts section, providing podcasters with the ability to generate video clips and Shorts from their full episodes. For podcasts that lack video, the AI tool can create a video using only the audio files.
Live streaming will benefit from the inclusion of Playables, which is now available to all creators. This feature allows audience engagement and content monetization. Further updates include the option to initiate vertical livestreams, as well as an AI-driven tool for creating highlights and Shorts from live sessions.
Key highlights: advanced AI functionalities for Shorts, improvements to YouTube Studio, including Ask Studio, and AI tools for Podcast creators. Moreover, music enthusiasts can pre-save upcoming albums and see countdowns to their release. Artists gain new methods to appreciate top fans, and brand collaborations will be simplified through updates to brand deals and shopping features.
