The Trump administration is sending an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to support ICE and federal law enforcement, as confirmed by the Department of Defense. This latest deployment is in response to ongoing protests. The new order supplements the 2,000 troops already deployed on Saturday. The Assistant to the Secretary of Defence for Public Affairs, Sean Parnell, confirmed the order via social media. The latest deployment takes place as California challenges the constitutionality of the deployments in court. The White House has responded by criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom. Rob Bonta, the California Attorney General, has strongly criticized Trump’s decision. Bonta argues that the federal order is unconstitutional. Governor Gavin Newsom has also criticized the order. The protests began following ICE raids which led to the arrest of numerous undocumented immigrants.
