A horrific fire at a general merchandise store in Hermosillo, Mexico, has resulted in a tragic death toll of 23, including several young victims, and left 11 people injured. The blaze occurred at a Waldo’s outlet in the city center, sparking a swift but challenging emergency response.
State officials have detailed the heartbreaking composition of the victims: 12 women, five men, and six children (four boys and two girls). The injured are receiving care across multiple hospitals in Hermosillo. The fire’s rapid spread and intense heat made immediate rescue operations incredibly difficult for firefighters and emergency personnel.
While preliminary findings suggest the fire was not intentional, a thorough investigation into its origins is underway. The national government has pledged support, with the Interior Secretary tasked with overseeing the deployment of federal aid to assist Sonora during this difficult time. Condolences have been extended to all affected families.
