Seismic activity of magnitude 6.7 has been recorded in Indonesia’s Papua province. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the earthquake, noting its occurrence at a considerable depth of 70 km. The epicenter was pinpointed approximately 200 km from the city of Abepura. Following the event, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has clarified that no tsunami warning has been activated. This seismic event, located at 2.31 degrees south latitude and 138.86 degrees east longitude, highlights the region’s susceptibility to geological shifts. While the magnitude is substantial, the depth and offshore epicenter likely reduced the immediate threat to coastal communities.
