As the debt increased, he and his family started being threatened by the lenders. Fed up with the threats and harassment she received from loan sharks, the man's wife committed suicide. The wife has also left a suicide note, on the basis of which the police have registered a case against 13 people.

Lenders harassed

This case is of Hosadurga in Chitradurga district of Karnataka, where Darshan Balu, who worked as an assistant engineer in the irrigation department, lost Rs 1.5 crore while trying to become rich. When he could not return the money, the loan sharks came to his house and started harassing his wife. The debtors were continuously defaming him and his family. Fed up with this, his wife Ranjita V took the dreadful step of suicide.

3 accused identified, rest absconding

Police said that Ranjeeta has told about the harassment by moneylenders in her suicide note. Based on the complaint, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against 13 suspects under IPC 306. The 3 have been identified as Shivu, Girish and Venkatesh. All three accused have been arrested by the police, while others are still absconding. Darshan and Ranjita have a 2 year old son.
