Citing Iranian involvement in anti-Jewish attacks, Australia has expelled the Iranian ambassador. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced plans to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist entity. Iran stands accused of planning attacks against the Jewish community in Sydney and Melbourne.
Albanese referenced intelligence linking the Iranian government to attacks on the Louis Continental Kitchen in Sydney on October 20 last year, and the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on December 6. He condemned these attacks as efforts to undermine social harmony and create rifts within Australia.
This action follows criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who accused Albanese of betraying Israel and the Australian Jewish community. Netanyahu had stated on August 26 that history would judge Albanese as a weak leader.
