Pakistani security forces have eliminated at least 47 militants in Balochistan province, near the Afghan border, over the course of two days. The ISPR reported that an operation in the Sambaza area of Zhob district, carried out during the night of August 7-8, resulted in the killing of 33 militants. In a subsequent operation conducted near Sambaza, bordering Afghanistan, on the night of August 8-9, an additional 14 militants were killed. The security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives. Mobile and internet services in Balochistan are suspended until August 31st due to unspecified security reasons. The Balochistan government requested this suspension, as stated in a notification from the Balochistan Home Department on August 6. Shahid Rind, the government spokesperson, confirmed this order. Pakistan’s Independence Day is on August 14, leading to concerns about potential terrorist activities aimed at disrupting the celebrations, which has increased the vigilance of security forces. A recent bomb explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwestern Pakistan claimed three lives and injured 13 more individuals, including three police officers. The explosion happened close to a police patrol vehicle at a taxi stand in the Wana tehsil of South Waziristan. Since November 2022, following the end of a ceasefire between the government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), there has been a rise in militant attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
