The joyous occasion of Vijaya Dashami was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervor across Bangladesh, echoing the festive spirit of the Durga Puja celebrations. Cox’s Bazar, in particular, witnessed a remarkable spectacle as devotees gathered for the immersion of Durga idols, a highlight of the Sharadiya Durga Utsav.
The coastal area was filled with a sea of people as thousands participated in the festivities. The major idol immersion ceremony began on Thursday afternoon, featuring a Vijaya conference held at the District Administration’s open stage at Laboni Point.
Idols were transported to the beach by trucks from various pandals across seven blocks of Cox’s Bazar district, attracting a huge crowd. Recognizing the importance of safety, authorities implemented comprehensive security measures.
In Bangladesh, where Hinduism is a significant minority religion, Vijaya Dashami is celebrated with great joy. The majority of Hindus residing in the country are of Bengali descent, and the festival is a time of widespread celebration.
Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, the Executive President of the District Puja Udghavan Parishad, shared that the idol immersion in the sea commenced with the chanting of mantras at 5 pm. He highlighted the administration’s support in ensuring a successful and grand event, which brought together Hindus from far and wide to Cox’s Bazar.
The government ensured the implementation of strict security protocols for the ceremony. The beach area was under constant surveillance by the army, BGB, police, and RAB. Additionally, RG control rooms were established. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan stated that the district administration and law enforcement agencies collaborated to ensure the smooth and safe execution of the idol immersion ceremony by reinforcing a three-layered security system.
