The security of South Asia is under threat as Bangladesh has allegedly transformed into a hub for terrorist activities, according to Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Wazed has made serious allegations regarding the presence and operations of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) within Bangladesh, linking them to recent violent incidents in Delhi. He further stated that the current government has released a large number of previously detained militants, escalating security risks.
Wazed’s claims suggest that LeT’s activities in Bangladesh are directly contributing to terror plots, including those aimed at India’s capital, Delhi. This suggests a shift where Bangladesh could potentially become a base for transnational terrorism. Compounding these concerns, Wazed implicated Pakistan’s ISI in arming militants who engaged in violent protests last year, asserting that weapons were supplied through covert channels.
The former Prime Minister’s son described the legal measures against Sheikh Hasina as a politically motivated charade. He detailed irregularities in the judicial process, including the unlawful dismissal of judges and the denial of a fair trial, making any legal extradition request untenable. Wazed expressed his deep appreciation for Indian Prime Minister Modi’s role in ensuring his mother’s safety, revealing an assassination plot against her.
Critiquing the current administration, Wazed highlighted its undemocratic foundation, ruling without elections for an extended period. He addressed corruption, admitting its past presence but stressing the marked improvements achieved during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. The escalating security situation necessitates immediate attention from India and the international community.
