The United Nations has released a report indicating that more than 2.1 billion people around the globe are struggling to access safe drinking water. The report indicates that a quarter of the world’s population is consuming water that is not safe for consumption. The report reveals that over 100 million people depend on open water sources like rivers and canals for their drinking water. The World Health Organization and UNICEF have highlighted that issues in water, sanitation, and health services are leading to widespread health problems. There is a pressing need to address these issues on a global scale, although major improvements are not anticipated before the year 2030. A senior official from the World Health Organization emphasized that access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right.
