China is actively working to mitigate the impact of the Taklamakan Desert, with its primary strategy revolving around a green belt initiative. This approach involves a comprehensive afforestation and reforestation strategy, commonly known as the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program, to curb the desert’s expansion in northern regions.
Recent reports indicate that Beijing has completed a critical sand control belt, integrating three desert areas in Inner Mongolia. This project serves as another phase in the Great Green Wall’s broader objectives, underscoring China’s determined efforts to combat desertification. According to Chinese news sources, the desert is perceived as the most significant threat, gradually transforming the land into arid, sandy terrain.
