Preparations are underway for the general elections in Bangladesh next February. Professor Mohammad Yunus, head of the interim government, recently announced the election schedule. Simultaneously, the Election Commission has developed a new plan aimed at bolstering law and order during the election period. This plan proposes including the army, navy, and air force within the law enforcement apparatus.
The EC approved a proposal to amend the RPO (Representation of the People Order) during a meeting on Monday. If the amendment is implemented, it would remove the need for a separate directive to assign responsibilities to these forces during the election. This would allow soldiers to work at polling stations, similar to police officers, and to make arrests without requiring warrants.
