With elections approaching in Bangladesh, the Yunus government is focused on addressing the issue of missing weapons. Weapons were taken from security forces during clashes with demonstrators during the July revolution of last year. This situation has emerged as a major concern for the interim government. The authorities are worried about the potential for misuse of these weapons before the elections and have intensified their efforts to recover them.
According to the latest statistics, 1,363 weapons and 257,720 cartridges are yet to be recovered. Law enforcement agencies believe these arms could be used to trigger violence and destabilize the country prior to the upcoming national elections. The drive to seize weapons has thus been stepped up.
On Saturday, Home Advisor, Retired Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, mentioned that the recovery of weapons is a continuous effort, with seizures occurring daily. He expressed the hope that nearly all weapons would be recovered before the elections.
