The family of Mahrang Baloch, a Balochistan activist, has alleged that authorities at Quetta’s Hudda Jail are guilty of harassment and interference with legal processes. During a recent visit, Mahrang Baloch’s sister, Nadia Baloch, reported that prison officials created significant obstacles. Despite having a signed power of attorney, the superintendent, Hameedullah Pechehi, allegedly delayed and ultimately refused to sign the document. The visit reportedly escalated into a hostile environment, with family members facing threats and attempts to seize their phones. The family claims that the actions are designed to impede legal access. Furthermore, concerns were voiced about the treatment of Mahrang Baloch and other BYC members, who are allegedly enduring harassment and pressure influenced by state intelligence agencies. Nadia Baloch has refuted recent accusations against her sister and says they plan to pursue a defamation lawsuit. The developments intensify the existing concerns regarding the detention of BYC leaders under the MPO law. A petition has been submitted to Pakistan’s Supreme Court, challenging the legality of the detentions, seeking the release of Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, and Mama Ghaffar Baloch, citing unconstitutional and politically motivated arrests.
