
The US House of Representatives is nearing a final vote on Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ with the former President criticizing Republican senators for their resistance. The tax cut and spending bill was advanced through a procedural vote with a 219-213 margin. Trump took to social media to express his displeasure and suggest the opposition was counterproductive.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted the importance of the tax cuts and the booming economy. He questioned the motives of the Republicans and claimed that the MAGA movement was unhappy. Trump stated the opposition was affecting his ability to get support.
The House voted overnight to move the bill forward. GOP leaders had to address opposition to the Senate’s adjustments, as reported by CBS News. The final vote was delayed for several hours as the leaders worked to get support for the bill.
As of Thursday morning, there were multiple House Republicans who voted against the bill. The GOP leaders held open the vote, with the aim to persuade lawmakers to change their votes. The vote was 219 to 213.
House Republican leaders wanted to move forward on the legislation that includes increased spending on border security, defense, and energy production, as well as extending tax cuts. However, the bill involves cuts to health care and nutrition programs, as reported by CBS News.
Some House Republicans are unhappy with changes made by the Senate to the bill. Potential holdouts, including moderates and members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, met with Trump on Wednesday as the White House worked to get votes for the bill.
