A diplomatic spat has erupted between India and Bangladesh after interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus gifted a book containing a disputed map to Pakistan’s General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. The book, ‘Art of Triumph,’ reportedly illustrates India’s northeastern regions as belonging to Bangladesh, a depiction that echoes the ‘Greater Bangladesh’ irredentist concept promoted by extremist groups. This gesture has caused significant uproar, particularly in India, and has been widely criticized as an anti-India propaganda move. Political analysts are viewing this incident with alarm, especially given the recent strengthening of ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan. This perceived shift in allegiance under Yunus’s interim administration has raised concerns about a potential strategic realignment involving Pakistan and China, aimed at countering India’s influence in the region. The controversy is compounded by Yunus’s past statements and actions that have previously strained relations with India. Experts are calling this latest event a deliberate provocation that demands a strong response from New Delhi to safeguard its territorial integrity and regional standing.
