India is experiencing a 50% tariff on its goods from the United States, a consequence of its ongoing oil imports from Russia. This action, initiated by President Donald Trump, is designed to impact Russia’s economy, according to US Vice President JD Vance. Vance explained that the tariffs represent ‘aggressive economic leverage’ used to reduce Russia’s earnings from its oil trade. He also showed optimism about the US’s ability to facilitate peace between Russia and Ukraine, referencing recent concessions. Furthermore, Vance highlighted the Trump administration’s focus on ending the war, emphasizing the significant loss of civilian lives. He also stated that Trump’s approach to Russia was more effective than the past administration’s actions. The tariffs are directly linked to India’s purchase of Russian crude oil.
