The State Dinner honoring Russian President Vladimir Putin at India’s Rashtrapati Bhavan was a meticulously planned vegetarian affair, curated by President Droupadi Murmu. The meal, served Thali-style, was intended to provide a comprehensive taste of India’s diverse regional culinary landscape to the visiting delegates. The menu was a testament to the intricate art of Indian vegetarian cooking, utilizing a variety of spices and fresh produce. The starter course spanned the country, presenting Murungelai Chaaru (a South Indian soup), Gucchi Doon Chetin (morels with walnut chutney), Kaale Chane Ke Shikaampuri (savory black gram cakes), and Vegetable Jhol Momo (Himalayan dumplings). The main course highlighted rich North Indian preparations like Zafrani Paneer Roll, Paalak Methy Maataar Ka Saag, Tandoor Bharwaan Aloo, Achari Baingan, and Yellow Dal Tadka. A special Pulao infused with dry fruits and saffron, alongside a variety of breads such as Lachcha Parantha and Magaz Naan, completed the savory segment. For dessert, guests enjoyed traditional Indian sweets: Badam Ka Halwa and Kesar-Pista Kulfi, with a healthy option of mixed fruit and vegetable juices. The occasion also featured a unique musical performance by the Rashtrapati Bhavan Naval band, harmonizing Indian classical raagas with beloved Russian compositions.
