Israel is witnessing widespread protests as citizens rally for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. Demonstrators are expressing concerns that the military operations in Gaza are jeopardizing the safety of those held captive. They are urging the Netanyahu government to establish a ceasefire and secure the hostages’ release. Authorities have responded with arrests, detaining 25 protestors across multiple Israeli cities, including Jerusalem.
In Jerusalem, police used water cannons and engaged in physical altercations with protestors near a main tunnel, preventing their entry. The protests have then moved toward Aza Street, where the Prime Minister’s home is located. A demonstrator detained near the tunnel stated, “Arrest me, but the protest movement will continue.”
Former hostages have asserted that military strategies are not effective in bringing the captives home.
During a day of demonstrations at Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, Arbel Yehud, a hostage who was previously released, addressed the crowd. She stated, “I personally know what it is like to be a captive. I know that military action does not return hostages, but instead, it kills them. The only solution for their return is an agreement, without any delays, right away.”
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of 25 protestors this morning across the country. These arrests occurred amid extensive protests and traffic blockages related to the demand for hostage releases, a ceasefire agreement, and an end to the war. The protests were triggered by the Israeli cabinet’s decision to fully occupy Gaza, with calls for a swift agreement to free the hostages.
