In a move that follows months of intense fighting and widespread destruction, Israel’s security cabinet has approved a plan to occupy Gaza City. This decision, coming in the wake of the October 7th attack by Hamas, underscores the ongoing 22-month conflict. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the approval, indicating the plan is intended to ensure the defeat of Hamas. The war has caused numerous casualties, significant damage across Gaza, and a severe humanitarian crisis, threatening nearly two million Palestinians with famine. Before the cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Israel plans to regain control over the area and cede it to Arab allies who would govern Gaza and provide a better quality of life for its residents.
