Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has reiterated that the Gaza war will continue until Hamas is entirely defeated and all hostages are freed. The announcement reflects the Israeli government’s stance despite growing international pressure to end the fighting and rising domestic protests. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would not relent until Hamas is completely routed and all captives are returned. He stated that the objective is to make certain Gaza no longer poses a future threat to Israel. The Israeli military has already gained control over approximately 70% of the Gaza Strip since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023. The remarks come after unsuccessful indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas concerning prisoner exchanges and a potential ceasefire. Furthermore, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the twin goals of the war are the eradication of Hamas and the return of all captives. He also stated these objectives must be pursued simultaneously, despite any internal disagreements on prolonging the war and controlling the entirety of Gaza. Gallant pledged that every necessary step would be taken to defeat Hamas, and also insisted that the military must implement the decisions made by the political leadership.
