The killer of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has finally admitted his guilt, three years after the fatal incident. Tetsuya Yamagami, 45, confessed in court, stating, “Everything is true,” as he faced charges for the assassination. He was arrested immediately after shooting Abe with a homemade gun while the former leader was giving a speech in Nara in July 2022. A comprehensive mental health examination was conducted on Yamagami, lasting nearly half a year. The findings confirmed his mental competence, allowing the trial to proceed. Yamagami’s guilty plea signifies a critical juncture in the legal process, acknowledging the facts of the crime after an extended period.
