A deadly shooting in Jerusalem resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to fifteen others after attackers opened fire on a bus near a bus stop. The incident occurred on Monday at a busy intersection in north Jerusalem, along a route leading to Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem. The attackers targeted people waiting at a bus stop, according to police. Some sources report that the attackers also boarded a crowded bus and shot at passengers. Videos from the scene showed people running as gunfire erupted near a bus stop. Paramedics described a chaotic scene with broken glass and injured people on the ground. One woman and four men were among the deceased. Preliminary reports indicate that at least two gunmen were involved. Magen David Adom reported receiving information about approximately fifteen injured individuals as a result of the shooting at the Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in Jerusalem. The shooting occurred shortly after Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz issued an ultimatum to Hamas. He warned that if Hamas did not comply, they would be annihilated. The videos showed a scene of panic with people running from a bus stop. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir were present at the scene. Hamas praised the attack, calling it “heroic,” but did not claim responsibility. The attack follows the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and the ongoing war in Gaza. In the past day, six people in Gaza died from famine and malnutrition, bringing the total deaths from malnutrition to 393, including 140 children. A famine was declared in Gaza last month.
