The Pakistani government is set to offer 1,000 acres of land to Turkey for establishing an Export Processing Zone in Karachi. This decision, spearheaded by the Shehbaz Sharif administration, aims to attract Turkish investment and bolster trade to $5 billion. The offer is seen as a gesture of gratitude for Turkey’s support during the recent India-Pakistan issues. During a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in April 2025, the land proposal was presented. The EPZ is designed to mimic the successful model of Turkish export zones, which offer investors attractive incentives. A Pakistani delegation’s visit to Turkey revealed the benefits provided to investors, including tax relief and infrastructure support. The Karachi EPZ would serve as a crucial hub, reducing transportation costs for Turkish companies and facilitating trade with Central Asia and the Gulf nations. Pakistan is also looking to broaden its trade relationships with Turkey and the Gulf countries.
