As India and Canada re-establish diplomatic relations, the banned Khalistani organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has announced its intention to stage a “siege” of the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on September 18. The pro-Khalistan group has made public its plan to take control of the consulate on that day and encouraged Indo-Canadians with scheduled visits to postpone them. In a released statement, the group accused Indian consulates of operating a spy network aimed at monitoring and targeting Khalistan supporters. The statement also referenced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement from two years prior, where he mentioned an investigation into the role of Indian agents in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The SFJ’s statement claims that despite this, Indian consulates continue to engage in surveillance of those involved in the Khalistan Referendum.
