Following a 12-day conflict, during which Israel reportedly targeted and killed key figures close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iran’s leadership landscape has been reshaped. The deaths of top commanders created a need for new individuals to fill the ranks of influence. The Supreme Leader has now revealed his choices.
The National Security Council, which makes critical decisions subject to the Supreme Leader’s approval, underwent a restructuring. Khamenei appointed three individuals to represent him on the council, considered to be his closest confidantes. These individuals will vote and advocate for Khamenei’s interests during Security Council meetings.
The three individuals chosen by Khamenei are Ali Larijani, Ali Shamkhani, and Ahmadian. Larijani, a hardliner, has a history of representing the Supreme Leader on the Security Council. Shamkhani, a reformist, was also targeted in the conflict and has held important positions in the past. Ahmadian has been managing things behind the scenes and has a rich background in military affairs.
These three figures are now expected to shape policy and represent the Supreme Leader’s interests.
