KP Sharma Oli, the former Prime Minister of Nepal, has launched a scathing attack on the current government, calling it the ‘Gen-Z government’ and alleging its unlawful formation. According to Oli, the present administration was not formed through adherence to the constitution or through popular vote. He directly accused its creation of being a result of vandalism and arson. This strong condemnation came on Saturday, as Oli returned to public life after his resignation following the Gen Z protests that rocked the nation’s political landscape on September 8. Oli’s resignation took place on September 9, as he attempted to prevent further unrest. Following his resignation, Oli made his first public appearance at an event organized by Rastriya Yuwa Sangh, the student wing of the CPN-UML party, in Bhaktapur. This action is viewed as a strategic effort to reconnect with the party’s youth base, many of whom were critical of his leadership during the recent turmoil. The widespread protests, driven by young citizens, were triggered by demands for political accountability, an end to entrenched corruption, and the reversal of a contentious social media ban, leading to the most violent day in Nepal since 2006.
