The Metropolitan Police have made over 500 arrests in connection with pro-Palestinian protests in London, primarily targeting individuals who violated a new law that prohibits support for the Palestine Action group. The arrests, which include those from a Sunday demonstration, represent a significant crackdown on supporters of the group following the recent government ban. Parallel to these protests, a counter-demonstration saw hundreds of pro-Israel supporters marching in central London. The police operation, led by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekun, focused on upholding the law, preventing clashes between opposing groups, maintaining peace, and minimizing disruption to the public. The Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, stated that the ban on Palestine Action was based on security considerations, citing the group’s involvement in violence, serious injuries, and extensive criminal damage.
