Minister Jyoti Jeetun addressed concerns about Mauritius being a tax haven, asserting that it operates as a low‑tax jurisdiction with robust anti‑tax‑abuse protocols. The island had been listed on the FATF grey list in 2020 but was removed in 2023 after implementing corrective measures. Jeetun stressed that 12 agencies maintain oversight and that Mauritius satisfies nearly all FATF’s 40 requirements, with a 2027 assessment scheduled to ensure continued compliance. She mentioned that the government has never faced recent incidents of misuse. Further, she explained Mauritius’s neutral diplomatic position regarding India and China, underlining the country’s diverse demographic composition and affirming equal partnership with the two major neighbours.
