An alleged assassination attempt against Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz Neiger, orchestrated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has reportedly been thwarted. US and Israeli intelligence sources revealed the plot, attributing its coordination to an Iranian officer, Hasan Izadi, also known as Masood Rahnema, operating from Iran’s diplomatic mission in Venezuela. This alleged Iranian operation was reportedly disrupted earlier this year. Officials emphasize that while the threat is contained, it reflects a broader pattern of Iran’s alleged global targeting of perceived enemies. Israel’s Foreign Ministry specifically thanked Mexican law enforcement for their role in neutralizing the threat, vowing to continue collaborating with international partners to counter Tehran’s influence. The US State Department echoed these sentiments, condemning Iran’s alleged activities and pledging continued efforts to hold perpetrators accountable. Notably, Mexican authorities stated they have received no official report regarding this specific plot, while reaffirming adherence to international cooperation protocols. The incident brings into focus concerns over Iran’s increasing covert operational activities in Latin America, with Venezuela frequently cited as a key hub.
