Michelle Obama has expressed skepticism regarding America’s current preparedness to elect a woman as president. The former First Lady’s remarks follow the unsuccessful presidential campaigns of notable figures such as Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris.
While promoting her new book at a recent engagement, Obama shared a somber observation: “As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready. We’ve got a lot of growing up to do, and there are still many men who do not feel they can be led by a woman.” She pointed to insufficient opportunities and societal resistance as key factors preventing women from ascending to the nation’s highest political office.
Despite her prominent standing and influence within the Democratic Party, Obama has repeatedly denied any interest in running for president herself. In 2016, she explicitly stated, “I will not run for president. No, nope, not going to do it.” Yet, the possibility of her candidacy remains a recurring topic of speculation, particularly during election campaigns, including the 2024 presidential race.
Obama actively supported Kamala Harris’s campaign in the lead-up to the previous election. At a rally in Michigan, she made a strong case for protecting women’s health and rights, cautioning voters against electing Donald Trump. Her impactful words were, “Please, please do not hand our fates over to the likes of Trump, who knows nothing about us and has shown deep contempt for us. A vote for him is a vote against our health and our worth.”
