
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, part of the Axiom Mission 4, is the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS). He has highlighted the significance of the scientific research being carried out in space, particularly the Indian-led projects. Upon arriving at the ISS, he mentioned he has been occupied with various research activities. During his discussion with Axiom Space’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Lucie Low, Group Captain Shukla gave a summary of the research and advancements happening at the space station, particularly those led by Indian scientists. He pointed out the importance of the ISS as a primary location for research and innovation, mentioning how his mission opens doors for Indian scientists. The research encompasses stem cell studies, exploring seed growth in microgravity, and evaluating cognitive loads on astronauts. A specific focus is on stem cell research, attempting to discover if supplements can enhance recovery, growth, or repair. Shukla feels honored to act as a liaison between researchers and the ISS. The Ax-4 crew, launched on June 25, is scheduled for a 14-day stay on the ISS.
