
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives held at Republic Square in Malé. He was the Guest of Honour, alongside Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.
During his visit, PM Modi met with various political leaders, including Vice President Hussain Mohammed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Rahim Abdullah, and former President Mohammed Nasheed. On social media, Modi highlighted the strong India-Maldives partnership, based on mutual respect, shared values, and extensive cultural and economic exchanges. He noted the growing relationship, strengthened by people-to-people ties and cooperation across sectors. India remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Maldivian people and working towards global progress.
Details of the visit were shared by the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to strengthen their relationship. The Maldives President’s Office also shared details of the discussions between Vice President Latheef and PM Modi focused on reinforcing cooperation. PM Modi also welcomed the formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group.
