The Morning Midas, a 600-foot cargo ship, sank in the North Pacific Ocean after a fire that started a few weeks ago. The ship was carrying 3,000 vehicles, including 800 electric vehicles, en route from China to Mexico. The crew was forced to abandon ship near the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. The ship sank to a depth of over 16,000 feet. The US Coast Guard has stated there’s no immediate pollution threat. Salvage vessels are on the scene to mitigate any environmental concerns. The fire’s damage, combined with rough seas, caused the ship to sink. All 22 crew members were rescued after a distress signal was sent.
