Pakistan continues to grapple with terrorism, as militant groups launch attacks against both citizens and the military. Recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan’s northwestern border province have resulted in the deaths of at least five security personnel, with 17 others wounded.
The attacks took place in an area bordering Afghanistan, a region known for its instability and history of such violence.
**Frontier Constabulary Post Attacked**
In the Hangu district’s Tora Warai area, terrorists attacked a Frontier Constabulary (FC) post late on Sunday night. The attack resulted in the deaths of three FC soldiers, with 17 others injured. Earlier on Sunday, in the Tirah Valley of Khyber district, security forces were targeted in a shooting, leading to the deaths of two more security personnel. The increase in these incidents is raising serious concerns regarding the current security situation.
**Counter-Terrorism Operation Results in Casualties**
In a separate event, a joint operation by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Upper Dir district led to the deaths of five terrorists. During this operation, one civilian also died, and seven police officers were injured. Police recovered the body of a terrorist on Sunday night, with four more bodies found on Monday. Injured police officers have been hospitalized for treatment.
Security forces have launched search operations in several areas of Upper Dir, including Dobando, Birkot, Salam Kot, and Atrandra, to eliminate terrorists.
**Increase in Attacks Near Afghanistan Border**
The recent incidents are occurring amid a surge in terrorist attacks across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistan shares a lengthy border with Afghanistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank located in Islamabad, there were 78 terrorist attacks in the country in June, resulting in a total of 175 deaths.
