In Kathmandu, Nepal, a large protest unfolded as thousands of residents demonstrated against the government, focusing on the restriction of social media and the government’s corruption. The situation escalated dramatically when some protesters entered the Parliament building, leading to the police using tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protest is driven largely by Nepal’s youth, who are deeply dissatisfied with corruption, high unemployment rates, and limitations on their civil rights. The government’s decision to ban social media platforms has significantly fueled public anger, turning the protest into a large-scale movement. The breach of the Parliament building has raised questions about security. Protests have spread to numerous parts of Kathmandu. People are strongly protesting against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government, shouting slogans like “We want transparency,” “Give back our rights,” and “Stop corruption.” Clashes have taken place between the police and protesters in various locations. To restore order, the government has declared a curfew in essential areas and increased security forces’ presence at governmental buildings and other critical sites.
