Disturbing footage depicting public executions of eight men in Gaza has drawn widespread condemnation and raised serious concerns about the escalating power struggle within the Palestinian enclave. The executions, carried out by Hamas fighters in Gaza City’s al Sabra area, targeted individuals labeled by Hamas as “collaborators and outlaws.” The graphic videos show blindfolded victims kneeling before gunmen bearing Hamas insignia, as a crowd cheers. Hamas claims these men were linked to Israel, but no concrete evidence has been provided, prompting strong rebukes from human rights groups advocating for an end to such violent acts. These killings coincide with Hamas’s determined efforts to solidify its authority since Israel’s departure from Gaza. The group has been engaged in clashes with various armed factions, including influential clan groups that had established a foothold during periods of unrest. Accusations have been leveled against these groups for disrupting humanitarian aid deliveries. In response to these developments, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning regarding disarmament, asserting, “They will disarm, and if they don’t, we will disarm them.” This statement comes as the U.S.-brokered peace deal, which included the liberation of Israeli hostages, faces significant hurdles. Israel has retaliated by cutting humanitarian aid by half and demanding the return of the bodies of its deceased hostages. The United Nations is calling for the preservation of the ceasefire and the continuation of humanitarian assistance. The volatile situation in Gaza, marked by internal violence and political uncertainty, poses a grave threat to regional stability and the fragile peace initiatives.
