Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks concerning the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani Foreign Office specifically rejected PM Modi’s comments, labeling them as ‘misleading,’ especially those pertaining to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 tourists. Pakistan insists the allegations against it are unsubstantiated, with no supporting evidence presented. The Pakistani government also warned against what it perceives as an attempt to distract from the human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The statement also expressed concerns about issues raised by Modi, regarding regional development, the security presence, limitations on civil liberties, and demographic shifts, asserting that such measures potentially violate international legal standards, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. India, however, maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter, emphasizing its commitment to the region’s administration, development, and security. Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, appealing to the international community to safeguard their rights, including the right to self-determination as outlined in relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. This exchange highlights the enduring conflict between India and Pakistan over Jammu and Kashmir. Recent incidents, like the withdrawal from the Indus Waters Treaty, indicate the persistent challenges in the region. International actors are urging both nations to embrace constructive dialogue and seek peaceful solutions that benefit the people of the region.
