Balochistan is reeling from the alleged torture and subsequent death of Nazia Shafi, a young woman reportedly abducted by security forces in Panjgur. According to local accounts, both Nazia and her mother were illegally detained and subjected to extreme physical abuse, leaving them critically injured. Nazia tragically passed away hours later, fueling widespread outrage and sorrow.
Human rights activist Sammi Deen Baloch has strongly denounced this horrific event, describing it as a profound violation of human rights and a grim reflection of state repression in the province. She asserted that violence against women has escalated, with forces operating with complete impunity. The activist highlighted that enforced disappearances and torture are a consistent policy in Balochistan, lacking any form of accountability. This has left countless families in despair, silenced and denied justice.
The death of Nazia Shafi has once again drawn international attention to the severe human rights situation in Balochistan. Sammi Deen Baloch implored global human rights organizations and women’s rights advocates to address the plight of Baloch women facing continuous persecution and violence. This case underscores the persistent abuses occurring under the guise of security operations in conflict zones. Securing justice for Nazia is seen as a pivotal moment in the fight against state-sponsored violence and for the restoration of human dignity.
