
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has affirmed her government’s commitment to fostering religious tolerance and mutual respect. Speaking on the International Day for Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, she emphasized the importance of solidarity with those persecuted due to their faith.
Nawaz stated her sympathy for individuals facing injustice due to religious prejudice, highlighting Islamophobia as a significant global issue. She condemned the attacks on mosques, restrictions on the hijab, and the association of Muslims with terrorism, calling them a blight on humanity.
Regarding Palestine, Nawaz noted that the land is stained with the blood of martyrs, and the voices of children are silenced by gunfire. She also highlighted the unresolved suffering in Kashmir, stating that the global community has yet to address the questions raised by both regions.
Nawaz reiterated her government’s unwavering support for all victims of religious persecution. She underscored that Islam promotes love, peace, and tolerance, and her government is dedicated to promoting religious harmony and mutual respect.
Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, took office as the 20th Chief Minister of Punjab on February 26, 2024, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
