A complex and concerning strategy is emerging from Pakistan, allegedly masterminded by Army Chief Asim Munir, to strategically position global superpowers against the Taliban. This sophisticated campaign reportedly uses recent international terror incidents as a catalyst to manipulate the United States and China into taking direct action against Afghanistan’s ruling faction. The approach is characterized as a high-stakes game of psychological warfare.
This strategic push is marked by significant hypocrisy, considering Pakistan’s extensive history of nurturing and exporting terrorism. Despite its own deep ties to extremist elements over decades, the nation is now attempting to shift global focus onto Afghanistan as a primary source of international terror. The plan aims to leverage incidents that can be credibly linked, even indirectly, to Afghanistan to convince Washington and Beijing that decisive intervention is necessary.
Key to this narrative are two recent events: an assault on US National Guard soldiers and a drone attack in Tajikistan that claimed the lives of Chinese workers, both of which have been connected to Afghan soil. Pakistan is reportedly leveraging these occurrences to build a case for Afghanistan being the new global terror hub. The ultimate goal is to gain the crucial backing of the US and China to dismantle the Taliban, a task Pakistan’s military has struggled to accomplish independently.
Countering Pakistan’s narrative, the Taliban has denied responsibility and accused Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, of fabricating the events. This accusation suggests that Pakistan’s actions are motivated by a desire to disrupt Afghanistan’s improving relations with India and the international community, resorting to deceptive tactics to maintain regional leverage.
