Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Charlie Kirk. Three senior officials, citing information from The New York Times, have indicated that the weapon used in the assassination may be an older Mauser model. Media reports suggest it could be an imported Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle.
Investigators have recovered a spent cartridge and multiple other bullets from the rifle’s chamber. Such rifles are often used by marksmen and hunters. Retired FBI agent Brad Garrett, as reported by Reuters, believes the evidence points to a planned assassination. The shooter discarded the rifle to avoid being seen with the weapon while fleeing. CCTV footage shows the suspect exiting a building roof, crossing a street, and heading towards the woods.
